4 Christmas Eve Traditions To Start This Year

We are just 3 very short days away from Christmas, and one of the things I always look forward to during the Christmas season is the anticipation of Christmas Eve! Growing up, there were always a few Christmas Eve traditions my family took part in that made the day special. As we’ve grown up and started families of our own, some of the traditions have faded away, and others have taken their place. I want to share 4 of my favorite Christmas Eve traditions of all time that your family might love and want to adapt into your own Christmas Eve festivities. Enjoy! 🙂

1. Christmas Eve PJS

My Grandma used to send my brother, sister, and I brand new PJs every Christmas (a few days early) so we could wear them Christmas Eve night and while opening our presents Christmas morning. It was a fun tradition I always looked forward to and it will make your cozy kiddos look just adorable for Christmas day festivities.

2. Christmas Eve Candlelight Church Service

The church I grew up in held a candlelit Christmas Eve service every year in the evening. It was my favorite way to prepare my heart for Christmas and remember why we were celebrating in the first place. At the end of each service, a candle would get lit at the front of the church, and the flame would get passed both left and right. The cycle would continue until every candle was lit in the hands of everyone attending. The glow of the church was a beautiful sight to behold, and we’d sing Silent Night to end the service. It will forever be one of my favorite traditions of Christmas Eve.

3. Watch The Nativity Story With Mugs Of Hot Chocolate

Several years ago, my mom bought the movie The Nativity Story, and we’ve watched it every Christmas season since. It’s a great reminder of the true meaning of Christmas, and portrays realistically what Mary and Joseph probably experienced many years ago as they prepared for the birth of Jesus. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend you do! It’d be a great Christmas Eve tradition to start to prepare yours and your family’s hearts for Christmas.

4. Open One Gift

My favorite Christmas Eve tradition as a young girl was opening one present on Christmas Eve. I remember my siblings and I would have our one present picked out weeks before Christmas Eve. And when the Eve of Christmas finally arrived, we’d race downstairs to open our gift. I usually chose the biggest box under the tree addressed to me that I could find, naturally 😉

And That’s A Wrap!
