8 Essential Storage Items for Organizing your Home

I’ve been living in a small apartment for 4 years now so I’m something of a master when it comes to making space count. Storage organization is my best friend.

Small apartment living can be a blessing in disguise. While you may not have as much square footage as you’d like, small apartment living forces you to only own the essential items. That means clutter is not an option. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said no to a purchase because “we don’t have room”. Looking back, I’m so glad I didn’t purchase those items! Additionally, your rent won’t put as large of a dent in your bank account.

Trust me when I say I know how difficult it can be to feel like space is limited for your valued possessions. We have 1 bedroom closet smaller than my childhood closet, and 1 small utility closet. That’s IT for storage space! I’ve learned how to add additional storage in multiple ways for our small apartment and you can too!

You’re one short read away from maximizing your small home space into something you can work with and feel good about. Let’s dive in!

  1. Great ideas, especially the coffee table storage. I think Ill use that one. Have you used plastic bed risers before? They’re like $10 at Walmart. We have them on both of our beds. They give an extra 6 inches of storage space under the bed.

    1. Thank you! Oh wow that’s really cool I haven’t heard of bed risers before but that’s a great idea. Do they work by going under the legs of the bed frame? That’s a great idea for higher storage space. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I use decorative storage Ottoman at the front door. I have two kids and the first thing they want to do is takeoff their shoes and selling them across the floor for some reason. Now that I have a small ottoman with fold up storage, it’s easy for them to sit down on the ottoman, take their shoes off and lift the top part to put their shoes in. Now I’m not tripping over shoes everywhere I walk and I don’t have a bulky shoes holder taking up more space.
